Travel insurance for Italy

15% off travel insurance for nib Health members*

Whether you're wandering Rome’s ancient ruins, exploring Tuscany’s countryside or cruising the Amalfi Coast, there’s plenty to enjoy on a trip to Italy. Before you go, it’s worth understanding how travel insurance for your trip to Italy may help protect your trip if something unexpected happens.

Why you should consider travel insurance for Italy

nib travel insurance may help cover a number of unexpected costs while travelling in Italy. Here are some of our travel insurance coverage highlights:

  • Medical bills: Italy’s healthcare system is high quality, but it’s not free for tourists. If you need medical treatment, hospitalisation, or emergency transport, you may face high upfront costs. Our travel insurance plans offer medical cover in Italy for illnesses, accidents, and emergencies. Please note: Australia has a reciprocal healthcare agreement (RHCA) with Italy. However, you should consider travel insurance for overseas medical emergencies that may not be covered by the RHCA.

  • Lost or stolen belongings: Popular cities such as Rome, Naples and Milan can attract pickpockets, particularly around train stations and major attractions. If your passport, phone or luggage goes missing, we may help replace items or reimburse expenses.

  • Adventure activities: Our travel insurance plans cover a range of adventure activities and sports in Italy including hiking, cycling, and scuba diving.

  • Trip interruptions: Delays, strikes and cancellations can affect transport across Europe. Trip cancellation cover for Italy may help if your plans are affected by specific insured events.

What's not covered

Travel insurance isn’t designed to cover everything. Some exclusions are:

✕ Travelling against government advice (see smartraveller.gov.au).

✕ Unattended or unsecured belongings. If your personal belongings are swiped while left unattended, they won’t be covered.

✕ Some existing medical conditions unless automatically covered or added as a Specified Medical Condition to our Comprehensive or Annual Multi Trip Plans. Terms and conditions apply.

✕ Reckless behaviour: If you knowingly and intentionally participate in activities or place yourself in a situation which poses a risk to your personal safety.

✕ Changing your mind: If you decide not to travel because you’ve changed your mind.

Read the combined FSG/PDS to ensure you understand the terms, conditions, limitations, and exclusions of your policy.
