What’s included in singles health insurance?
Hospital vs Extras cover - let's help you compare and choose what fits your lifestyle best.
Hospital cover
Hospital cover helps pay for costs like surgeries, private rooms and emergency treatments. It acts as a safety net for unexpected hospital visits and helps you avoid extra costs like the Medicare Levy Surcharge (MLS) and Lifetime Health Cover (LHC) penalties, which can save you at tax time.
Extras cover
Extras cover helps with your everyday healthcare needs, outside of hospital. It covers services like dental, optical, physio, natural remedies, chiro and more. Whether it’s for regular check-ups or ongoing treatments, Extras cover helps keep you feeling your best.
Plus, no matter which plan you choose – Extras, Hospital or both – all our options include unlimited emergency ambulance cover^ for added peace of mind.

When and why should I get private health insurance?
Getting private health insurance really depends on where you’re at in life, but it can help you:
Avoid extra tax: If you earn above a certain amount, having health cover helps you avoid the Medicare Levy Surcharge.
Save money by acting sooner: Lifetime Health Cover is a government initiative that encourages you to get private hospital insurance before you turn 31. If you wait, your premium goes up by 2% for every year you delay - so getting in early means paying less later.
Get more than Medicare: Medicare covers the basics, but private health insurance gives you access to private hospitals, shorter surgery wait times, your choice of doctor and helps cover everyday health services like dental, optical and physio.
