Did you know that all nib Hospital covers have Emergency Ambulance cover included? Or that you can check the annual limits on your Extras with your smartphone? Maybe you want to know which hospital to go to in the case that something goes wrong?

When it comes to understanding your private health cover, we aim to make it as simple as possible to know what you’re covered for and what you'll be forking out. So, to help answer some of the biggest questions and bust some of the biggest myths, here are the no-nonsense facts from us to help you get the most out of your policy.

How do I know what’s included in my cover?

Organising a camping trip to the outback? Joining the local footy team? Planning on starting a family? No matter what you've got planned (or unplanned), we've got an appropriate level of cover for you.

The good news is that if you have nib Hospital Cover, you're covered for the costs of unlimited emergency ambulance, so wherever you are across Australia, you’ll get the help you need, when and as often as you need it – that's the bottom line. Emergency ambulance costs are covered by the state government for residents of Queensland and Tasmania.

Each level of nib Hospital Cover has a different set of inclusions. To check what else your nib policy covers and for important information like your hospital excess, use the nib smartphone App and go to the "My Policy" section.

Can I choose which hospital I go to?

To minimise the out-of-pocket expenses our customers could incur when visiting a hospital, we have agreements with most Australian private hospitals. These agreements mean we can reduce or eliminate out-of-pocket expenses for our customers when they need hospital treatment. And if you choose to visit a public hospital we'll cover the treatment in line with the benefits provided by your health cover however, it's important that you know in choosing a public hospital, you aren't guaranteed a private room and there may still be out-of-pockets if you go over your benefit limits.

You can use our online hospital search tool to find private hospitals we have agreements with and of course, give us a call to help you understand any out-of-pocket costs you may have.

How do I know my Extras and annual limits?

At nib, we want you to stay healthy all year 'round; so knowing what your annual limits are on things like optical, physio and dental is essential. To see exactly how much you can claim back each year, as well as how much you’ve got left, go online to the "My Policy" section using the nib App on your smartphone.

How do I claim on Extras?

Claiming on the spot at your provider is the easiest way to claim. If your provider has this service available, just hand over your nib card after your treatment and they'll swipe it through their terminal.

Or claim online 24/7 with nib's iPhone and Android app! Simply snap a photo of your receipt, hit 'submit' and if you have set up your bank details, we'll put the cash straight into your account. If you are claiming on Extras like dental or physio, you'll get the cash in your account within five working days! Download the nib app today for iPhone, iPad or Android!
