nib foundation gives a gift that counts this Christmas

nib foundation has announced 10 new charity partners across Australia as part of its 2016 community grant program. This early Christmas present will see the grant recipients share in almost $340,000 in funding to deliver programs that help people and communities live healthier lives.

From more than 330 applications, the foundation selected this year's recipients due to their unique approaches to delivering targeted health prevention and intervention programs that support vulnerable youth and carers.

With a strong focus on mental wellbeing amongst this year's cohort, other issues addressed include building stronger and more resilient families, carer wellbeing as well as early intervention to reduce lifestyle related chronic disease through better diet and physical activity.

nib foundation Executive Officer, Amy Tribe, said the foundation remains committed to its support of Australian charities to help address key health challenges facing those most vulnerable and marginalised in our community.

"Over the past eight years we have committed more than $15 million in grant funding to over 95 charity partners across Australia to deliver key health and wellbeing initiatives to those who need it most. We are pleased to uphold this funding support as we work to help our 2016 grant recipients tackle a wide range of community-based health causes," Ms Tribe said.

"Once again this year's charity partners have impressed us with their ability to continually innovate their approaches to improving community health outcomes. We look forward to helping bring these unique programs to life and making a real difference to the lives of thousands of people across the country," she added.

• The Place: Charlestown Community Centre (Hunter, NSW)

• Upper Hunter Community Services (Hunter, NSW)
