  • Partnership to boost nib’s profile and strong commitment to women, health and wellbeing

  • Fowler an outstanding choice to align with nation-wide health initiatives

nib said today that international football star Mary Fowler has been appointed as its new Chief Health & Wellbeing Officer, marking a major milestone in the insurer’s commitment to promoting health, inclusion and female representation across Australia and New Zealand.

A leading player for Australia’s national team, the Matildas, and Manchester City, Ms Fowler has become one of Australia’s most recognised and admired sporting figures. Known for her discipline, teamwork and drive, she represents the next generation of athletes who inspire through performance and authenticity, values that strongly align with nib’s focus on supporting healthier living.

The ambassador partnership is an extension to nib’s support for women in sport, reinforcing its advocacy for greater representation and visibility of female athletes. Ms Fowler joins a growing roster of women’s sporting partnerships, including the Newcastle Jets A-League Womens team, Newcastle Knights NRLW, Richmond AFLW, and NZ Auckland Blues, in addition to nib’s collaboration with the Minerva Network, which supports elite female athletes through mentoring and career leadership development. Ms Fowler joins fellow nib ambassador, Paul ‘The Chief’ Harragon, and highlights nib’s dedication to inspiring Australians of all ages to prioritise their health and wellbeing. Ms Fowler’s involvement also prompts Aussies to consider how the right health insurance can support a healthier future.

Being healthy and looking after my body is my top priority; it’s how I perform, recover and stay grounded.

As Chief Health & Wellbeing Officer, Ms Fowler will work with nib to promote health literacy, inspire Australians to prioritise their health, and contribute to initiatives that champion diversity, equity and inclusion. Ms Fowler said: "Being healthy and looking after my body is my top priority; it’s how I perform, recover and stay grounded. I’m incredibly proud to represent women in sport, and to work with nib to inspire people to take care of their health and to feel confident in who they are. I’m excited to help encourage Australians move more, dream big and back themselves.”

nib Group CEO and Managing Director, Ed Close, said Ms Fowler embodies the future of Australian sport and brings an important voice to nib’s mission of better health and wellbeing for all communities.

“Mary is a true champion. She is someone who has achieved incredible success in her chosen field on a global stage,” Mr Close said. “She typifies the energy and diversity of modern Australia, and we’re proud to have her join nib. Her values align strongly with ours; she’s authentic, inspiring and deeply committed to her health and wellbeing. Mary’s broad appeal and positive influence make her an ideal partner in helping us motivate and support our customers and the communities in which we operate.”

Women’s football, and Ms Fowler’s place within it, is growing rapidly.

Mary is at the heart of this momentum, and we’re incredibly proud to partner with her.

Nielsen data shows women’s football is on track to become one of the world’s top five sports by 2030, with more than 800 million fans globally, and about 60% of those fans will be female, making it one of the few sports where women form the majority.

The 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup reached more than 2 billion people and resulted in sponsorship deals tripling from 2019. “Mary is at the heart of this momentum, and we’re incredibly proud to partner with her," Mr Close said.

The partnership underscores nib’s broader investment in initiatives that use sport as a catalyst for social change. By championing diversity, equity and inclusion, nib aims to build healthier, more connected and more inclusive communities.
