Why choose nib Extras for dental
What’s included with First Choice dental practitioners?
Our First Choice network of dental practitioners offer treatments at agreed rates to help reduce your out of pocket costs, such as:
General dentistry check-ups for the whole family (if you have Family extras cover)
The First Choice network is our community of specially selected recognised dental practitioners who have promised they’ll deliver quality care and value for money by offering agreed rates for nib members.
As an nib member you can choose to see the dentist of your choice, but by choosing an nib First Choice provider, their agreed rates mean you could pay less and your Extras limits could last longer.
Use our Find a Provider tool to find a First Choice network dental practitioner near you.
An agreed rate is a set price agreed upon by nib and your healthcare provider for certain services or treatments.*
If you don’t have Hospital cover and don’t want everything that comes with Extras, DentalPass might be for you. You'll have access to our First Choice network of dental practitioners and their agreed rates on a range of dental treatments*. Plus, get $25 back on eligible check-ups^ up to twice a year when you visit dental practitioners in our network.
With DentalPass, you can't access the No Gap offer at participating dental practitioners. Not sure what No Gap dental is or if it's right for you? Find out.
The amount you get back depends on your level of Extras cover. Our current range of Extras covers offer 50% to 75% back per visit at any recognised dental practitionerˣ, up to your annual limit.
By seeing a First Choice network provider you can benefit from agreed rates, which can help lower your out of pocket costs, and make your dental Extras limits last longer, leaving more cover for unplanned dental treatments.
Only dental practitioners in our network will appear in the Find a Provider search tool. That doesn't mean you can't see the dental practitioner of your choice, but they may charge you more than providers we have First Choice network agreements with.
Orthodontics is a specialised dentistry service that focuses on helping to correctly align teeth, bites and jaws. If your health cover includes orthodontic benefits, you may be able to claim costs for various procedures such as braces and plates.
Orthodontia benefits start with an annual limit that increases each year. After serving a 12-month waiting period, you can begin claiming up to this starting limit.
For each calendar year with nib, your orthodontia annual limit increases by $100, regardless of previous orthodontia cover. For example, if you start with an $800 limit, it will increase to $900 in your second year, $1000 in your third year, and so on.
Each plan has a lifetime limit for orthodontia benefits. Once this lifetime limit is reached, no further claims can be made for orthodontia.

*nib First Choice providers (i.e. our network) offer competitive fees for many commonly claimed treatments and consultations. These fees are reviewed at least annually and are subject to change. Always check nib.com.au/health-services/find-a-provider before booking to see if your provider participates or simply ask your provider if they are part of nib’s network at the time of booking. Providers occasionally leave the nib First Choice network so it’s important to check before booking to avoid disappointment. Annual limits, waiting periods and T&Cs apply.
^Eligible treatments during a check-up include oral exams (item numbers 011, 012, and 013 only). Payment of benefits is subject to nib’s Fund Rules and Policy Booklet, the membership being activated and annual limits.
ˣBenefits are only paid for services from nib recognised providers. A recognised provider is someone who provides a health service, like a dentist, optometrist, remedial massage therapist or physiotherapist who meet the following criteria: (i) They must work in a private practice; and (ii) They must have professional qualifications recognised by nib. To find a provider in nib’s network of healthcare professionals search Find a Provider.
