Why you should consider travel insurance when going to Bali

Bali might be a holiday favourite for Aussies, but things don’t always go to plan—think Bali belly, scooter mishaps, stolen gear, or trips cut short by wild weather. Travel insurance may help cover you when paradise throws a curveball.

Riding scooters or motorbikes in Bali

If you plan to ride a scooter or motorbike in Bali, you will not be covered unless you comply with all of the following:

  • The scooter or motorbike must not have an engine capacity of more than 250cc;

  • Always wear a helmet;

  • You must have a full motorcycle licence that is valid in both the country of travel and an Australian driver’s licence with permission to ride a scooter or motorbike in Australia.

Enjoy the great outdoors in Bali

If you plan to surf, scuba dive, hike or bungee jump, you should consider travel insurance cover when participating in sports and activities. Our travel insurance may also come in handy with baggage cover if you are taking expensive sports equipment such as your surfboard, kayak, or hiking gear.

Access 24/7 Emergency Assistance

If you find yourself in an emergency medical situation and need assistance, the Emergency Assistance team is available 24/7 to help you navigate issues, and to liaise on your behalf with our medical team.

The team is connected to a global network that provides:

  • Medical care

  • Medical transfer to a hospital or repatriation to Australia where necessary

  • Medical-related guidance and support

  • Access to translation services.

What's covered by travel insurance

With nib, you have access to International, and Annual Multi Trip insurance plans offering varying levels of cover. Some of the key benefits include:

And much more.

What's not covered by travel insurance

Travel insurance is designed to help when unexpected events happen while travelling. Some things we don’t cover include:

  • Any medical, hospital, dental or ambulance expenses you incur in Australia

  • If you decide to not continue with your trip

  • Government warnings: travelling to, remaining in, or planning a journey to a region that the Australian Government has issued a 'Do Not Travel' warning (see Smartraveller)

  • Refusal of alternative arrangements: if your airline or travel provider offers a reasonable alternative option and you refuse, your coverage may be limited

  • Refusal to follow the law: if you fail to follow official laws or warnings from a government authority or organisation, or fail to take reasonable precautions to avoid a financial loss after a public warning of a natural disaster

  • Reckless behaviour: if you intentionally and recklessly place yourself in circumstances or undertake activities which pose a risk to your personal safety (except to save a human life)

  • A loss arising from your evacuation: or repatriation that is not medically necessary or that is undertaken without our consent

  • A loss arising from any existing medical condition: that you or a member of your travelling party suffer from, which is NOT automatically covered, which you did not disclose, and which is not an accepted Specified Medical Condition.

As always, our priority at nib is to help you travel confidently, and to know exactly where you stand with your coverage. It’s always a good idea to read the terms, conditions, limits and exclusions in the Product Disclosure Statement (PDS) to understand your policy thoroughly.

The above features and benefits are a summary of cover only. Cover is subject to the full terms, conditions, limitations, and exclusions outlined in the Product Disclosure Statement.
