A Score! for better health thanks to nib foundation
The path to better health is now just a click away with the official launch of Score!, opens in a new tab, a comprehensive online resource for Victorians with disability – a first for the state.
Launched by Cr Michelle Heagney, Deputy Mayor City of Greater Geelong with Mr Laurie Harkin AM, Victorian Disability Services Commissioner, Score! is an interactive directory for people with disability to find sport and recreation activities that meet their interests and abilities.
Developed by Disability Sport & Recreation with funding from nib foundation, Score! is a significant game changer for people with disability.
"Sport and recreation build stronger, healthier and more connected communities. Score! makes the search quick and easy, so now everyone can enjoy being active," Cr Heagney said.
Disability Sport & Recreation CEO Rob Anderson said Score! will improve the health and wellbeing of Victorians with disability by linking them to sport and recreation no matter where they live, how old they are, or what disability they have.
"There are one million Victorians with disability, and only on in four are participating in sport or recreation.
"This means around 750,000 Victorians with disability are not getting any of the health benefits from physical activity, but with Score! we anticipate a positive change," Mr Anderson said.
As part of the launch celebrations, Jared Rivers and Dawson Simpson from the Geelong Cats had a kick with local kids with disability at Kardinia West Oval.
The defender and ruckman shared their skills at the free footy clinic run by AFL Victoria to encourage kids who thought they couldn’t play to have a go.
Score! already has more than 350 sport and recreational activities to search and try, with new programs added daily.
