Extras cover providers
We'll cover you to see any healthcare provider you choose, as long as their professional qualifications are recognised by nib. To help keep your costs to a minimum, we have a network of providers who agree to offer their services at a reduced rate for nib members.
Who is a recognised provider?
We only pay benefits for services from recognised providers. A recognised provider is someone who provides a health service, like a dentist, optometrist, remedial massage therapist or physiotherapist who meet the following criteria:
They must work in a private practice
They must have professional qualifications recognised by nib.
Sometimes providers are only recognised for specific Extras services, and not others. For example, nib might recognise a provider for acupuncture, but not for remedial massage. This means you could claim for acupuncture, but not remedial massage.
Just ask your provider if you can claim for their services as an nib member!
Save on the cost of your healthcare
You can see any recognised provider and make a claim afterwards, but by seeing a provider in our network, you’ll be able to reduce the gap left between the total cost of your treatment and what nib pays, known as an out of pocket cost.
