Am I covered if I need to cancel or reschedule my trip?

If an unexpected event causes you to cancel or re-arrange your trip, your policy may cover cancellation or rescheduling fees for certain insured events.

What’s covered?

If your trip is cancelled due to an insured event, cancellation expenses may pay for the value of unused, non-refundable expenses that you’ve already paid for your travel arrangements, including activities, tours and accommodation.

What is an Insured Event?

We cover a number insured events for cancellation, including:

  • Death, sudden serious illness or serious injury to you, a member of your travelling party or a close relative.

  • Severe weather, natural disaster, riot, strike, civil insurrection, or hijacking.

  • If your passport, travel documents or credit cards are stolen, accidentally lost or damaged.

  • If a member of your travelling party is summoned to jury duty or to give evidence in a court of law.

  • You have been involved in, or your travel arrangements have been cancelled or delayed by, a motor vehicle, railway, air or marine accident.

How much am I covered for?

The most we will pay for all people on your policy combined, per trip, is specified in the Cancellation - chosen limit benefit, shown on your Certificate Of Insurance.

When am I covered?

  • You are covered for cancellation from when we issue your Certificate Of Insurance.

  • Cover for cancellation ends when you return to your home in Australia, or when the period of insurance ends, whichever happens first.

What do I do if I need to cancel or reschedule my travel?

Before you cancel or change your travel plans, you must contact your travel providers to try to minimise your expenses and request any refunds or rescheduling assistance.

When making a claim you’ll need to provide;

  • Written evidence that the reason that the cancellation or rescheduling was unexpected and occurred after you bought your policy, and after you booked or paid for any travel arrangements.

  • Written evidence of your cancellation or rescheduling fees to support your claim.

To support any claim be sure to:

  • Keep copies of all receipts, itineraries, documentation relating to cancellations

  • Keep copies of treating doctor’s reports, hospital reports and any other relevant reports for claims relating to injury, illness or death.

What’s not covered

There are some things we won’t cover in the event of cancellation, including, but not limited to:

  • We will not pay for any non-refundable costs for anyone not named on your policy.

  • We will not pay more than the cancellation limit amount that you selected which appears on your Certificate Of Insurance.

  • We will not pay more than the limit outlined in the Schedule of Benefits for Agent’s cancellation fees.

  • We will not pay for any pre-paid snow sports arrangements unless you have purchased the Snow sports cover option and this option is shown on your Certificate Of Insurance.

  • You decline a reasonable alternative service or compensation offered by a carrier or other travel service provider.

Cover is subject to the full terms, conditions, limitations and exclusions outlined in the PDS. Read your policy carefully and contact us if you have any queries.
