Life at nib

From innovation to collaboration and the ways we work, learn more about your day-to-day life at nib.

Our hybrid working approach means that our employees work outside the office most of the time. Our nib Hubs offer varied workspaces to connect and collaborate for specific events, meetings or activities.

To help our employees embrace working outside the office, we provide financial support to help them set up and maintain their home workspace.

Our strong online community and suite of digital tools connects our employees no matter where or how they're working.

We’re creating a new normal by giving you the options in not only where you work, but also when and how. Some common types of flexible working arrangements that may be available to you (depending on your role) include:

  • Working your normal hours somewhere other than an office.

  • Flexible start and finishing times and rostering choices.

  • Compressing your working week to work the same number of hours over fewer days.

  • Moving from full to part-time through a job share or job split arrangement.

  • Gradual increase or decrease in work hours e.g., after parental leave or when transitioning to retirement.

  • Purchasing additional time away from work or taking a career break.

Sustainability

Through our success, we aspire to create more prosperous and sustainable communities, not only the creation of enterprise value.

We recognise that how we go about our business, including the examples we set, directly and indirectly impact the sustainability of the communities in which we operate.

Our mission is to help people and communities live healthier lives. Since 2018, our employees have volunteered nearly 5,400 hours to our charity partners through nibgive, a program where we encourage our employees to get involved in community volunteering, fundraising and giving initiatives to help make the world a better place. We offer all employees volunteer leave and provide dollar matching for fundraising and payroll giving.

Our charitable arm, nib foundation, opens in a new tab, has provided over $31.5 million in funding to community health and wellbeing initiatives in Australia and New Zealand. In addition, our nib travel businesses have enabled customers who buy travel insurance to collectively raise over $5 million in micro-donations to fund community development projects globally through The Footprints Network, opens in a new tab.

Our values

Our values drive the way we influence, interact and work together to achieve results. They’re central to our success now and in the future.  Our values guide each decision we make and shape how we interact with each other, our members, travellers, suppliers and shareholders.

We're here for good reason

Success starts with fulfilling our purpose and meeting the expectations of the people and communities we serve. Done well, commercial results and business sustainability follow.

People listen to us when we listen to them

All of us, our employees, the people we serve, our providers, suppliers, regulators and other key stakeholders have a voice to be heard. We have conviction without closed minds.

The status quo is death

We must change, innovate and adapt as circumstances warrant. Business as usual leaves us left behind.

Without risk, we cannot grow

Triumph and failure are core to our learning. We take calculated risks and amplify progress. We're accountable but “get over” disappointment, without forgetting. We keep perspective and good humour.

Smart is cool

We encourage and admire education and active curiosity about how social, economic and technological trends may impact us. We think inside and outside the "box".

Think like the customer

Product, service and system design centres upon our members, travellers, participants and other customers.

Extraordinary people do extraordinary things

We can be “best in class” and that nothing great is ever easy. We push the boundaries while keeping it real.

We before me

We encourage and admire education and active curiosity about how social, economic and technological trends may impact us. We think inside and outside the "box".

Our "footprint" matters

We have a responsibility to contribute towards the sustainability of the communities in which we operate. We lead by example.

Free to be you

Diversity is a strength. We are all entitled to be our authentic self and to be treated with respect and dignity. Everyone belongs and there is no place for intolerance, harassment, bullying or shouting.
