Extras cover providers

When you see someone like a dentist, optometrist, physio, chiropractor or other health professional, you can make a claim as long as their professional qualifications are recognised by nib. However, we also have a network of providers who have agreed to help keep your costs down by offering their services at a reduced rate.

Who is a recognised provider?

An recognised provider is someone who provides a health service, like a dentist, optometrist, remedial massage therapist or physiotherapist. We only pay benefits for services from recognised providers. Providers must meet the following criteria to be recognised by us:

  • They must be in a private practice
  • They must have professional qualifications that are recognised by nib

Sometimes providers are only for specific Extras. For example, nib might recognise a provider for acupuncture, but not for remedial massage. This means you couldn’t claim remedial massage, but could claim acupuncture.

Save on the cost of your healthcare

You can see any recognised provider and make a claim afterwards, but by seeing a provider in our nib First Choice network, you’ll be able to reduce the gap left between the total cost of your treatment and what nib pays (known as an out of pocket cost).
