Healthcations: The healthy holiday alternative taking 2018 by storm
The top holidays for 2018 that will keep you healthy
Between dragging your luggage through long lines, dealing with delays and attempting to get into your seat without playing Tetris in the overhead compartment, it's no secret that flying can be stressful.
And, while travellers don't have much control over many of the factors that can make flying unpleasant, there are a few tricks of the trade that can make your trip a whole lot more comfortable.
We hit the call button and had a chat with cabin manager Lauren to get some insider tips.
Factor in the time it takes to get to the airport, park the car, walk to the terminal, check-in, make it through security and get to the boarding gate. Airports can be stressful, but the more organised you are, the better (and more relaxed) your trip will be.
Pack as lightly as possible and check-in as much luggage as you can; this will save you the stress of trying to juggle a million bags onto the plane - and let’s not forget the never-ending fight for overhead locker space.
Have your boarding pass ready as you board the aircraft, so that the flight attendant can see it. Myth-buster: They aren’t actually checking your seat number; they need to sight your date, flight number and destination to make sure you’re where you need to be!
Travel insurance can cover you for things like flight delays and cancellations or damage to luggage
It can be tough travelling with your kids and flight attendants understand that even the most prepared parent can face a toddler tantrum at any moment. However, if you’re travelling with your children, pack them lots of healthy snacks, a colouring-in book and pencils and their favourite toy to cuddle. Happy children = happy parents.
Regardless of where you’re heading, it’s a good idea to take out travel insurance; that way, you can rest assured that you can have cover for unforeseen events such as flight delays, big weather events resulting in flight cancellations, or damage to luggage and personal effects.

Flying can be such a pleasant experience if you put a little thought into your trip. Bring along something you love to keep you entertained - music, books, and movies. Remember this is one of those precious moments when you can chill out and just enjoy the ride.
Getting ready to jet off? Make sure you wear something loose and comfortable on your flight. Also, it’s a good idea to take a jacket or jumper on-board, because the aircraft air-con can be unpredictable at the best of times.
If you have a connecting flight, you may need to collect your luggage between the two flights. Do your research and don’t be afraid to ask your flight attendant questions – they’re there to help!
If you prefer to sit by the window, you’d like an exit row seat or maybe even an upgrade to business class, make sure you ask at check-in - the staff will generally do their best to help you out.
Put down the Shiraz, use facial spritz and pack some moisturiser - you’ll feel a million dollars!
Look after your health. Take some chewing gum just in case your ears hurt on descent. Drink loads of water because flying can dehydrate you and there’s nothing worse than arriving at your destination feeling crummy. Put down the extra glass of Shiraz, bring a facial spritz and pack some moisturiser for your hands. You’ll hop off at your destination feeling like a million dollars.
Some airplanes now have inflight wifi, but make sure you check before you board and have a backup plan just in case your flight isn’t offering it. A laptop loaded up with your favourite movies or TV series is always a winner – just don’t forget the headphones!
The last – and most important – tip is to smile and be nice to the staff. Don’t underestimate the power of being polite. Although flight attendants are around to make sure you stay as safe and comfortable as possible on your trip, it only takes one extra nice gesture from a passenger to make their day.
