30 Australian gems to visit before you're 30

3 minute read

Your 20s are great for a lot of things, especially getting out and exploring the world. But we think we have some of the best spots to visit right in our backyard.

We reached out to you on social media (in a Facebook survey to our nib customers from May 10-12) to put together 30 of Australia's best places to visit before you turn 30. Here's what you told us. How many have you been to?

30. The Tambo Crossing, East Gippsland Shire, VIC

29. Margaret River, South of Perth, WA

28. Three Sisters, The Blue Mountains, NSW

27. Bay of Fires, North-East Coast, TAS

26. Great Ocean Road, VIC

Pack plenty of drinks and snacks for this drive (and don't forget your camera!).

25. Bairnsdale, East Gippsland, VIC

24. Taronga Western Plains Zoo, Dubbo, NSW

23. Sunshine Coast, QLD

22. Norfolk Island, South Pacific Ocean

21. Kata Tjuta, Alice Springs, NT

There are actually 36 domes that make up Kata Tjuta, so that's great value for money.

20. Sydney Opera House, Sydney, NSW

19. Wineglass Bay, TAS

18. Bitter Springs, Mataranka, NT

17. Port Douglas, QLD

16. Daintree Rainforest, North-East Coast, QLD

BYO swimmers, towel, electricity, everything… This is a remote paradise!

15. Seal Rocks, Great Lakes, NSW

14. Karijini National Park, Hamersley Ranges, WA

13. Fraser Island, QLD

12. Cradle Mountain, TAS

11. Coober Pedy, SA

Best pack a torch for this one.

10. Broome, Kimberley Region, WA

9. Port Augusta, SA

8. Byron Bay, NSW

7. The Grampians National Park, VIC

6. 80 Mile Beach, Port Hedland, WA

With 80 miles to choose from it should be pretty easy getting your own spot on the beach.

5. Geraldton, Mid-West Region, WA

4. Magnetic Island, QLD

3. Katherine, NT

2. Cable Beach, WA

1. Newcastle, NSW

Newcastle, Australia

OK, maybe having Newcastle in our name (Newcastle Industrial Benefits) has made us a tad bias, but with Australia's best beaches, a burgeoning foodie scene, and easy access to the Hunter's wine making region, you can see why Newcastle was named by Lonely Planet's 'Best in Travel 2011' book as one of the top 10 must-see destinations. Come and say hello!

There are plenty of great places to visit around this fair country of ours; whether you go alone, with a mate, or with the whole crew.
