nib Group (nib) has partnered with 24-7Healthcare, opens in a new tab to provide international students with nib Overseas Students Health Cover (OSHC) with virtual GP consultations to help them better manage their health, particularly during COVID-19 and ongoing lockdowns.

From 9 August 2021, more than 10,000 nib members will be able to use the General Practice (GP) Telehealth service, known as 24-7MedCare, opens in a new tab, to access a virtual consultation with a GP from the comfort of home, at no additional cost.

nib Chief Executive - International Visitors, James Barr said the pilot was introduced in response to an increasing need for GP support among nib international student members over the past 12 months.

“More and more people are continuing to use telehealth services as an alternative and more convenient method of care, while varying COVID-19 state lockdowns and restrictions continue to take place across the country,” Mr Barr said

“By providing a digital platform where members can easily connect with a health provider and access their services at a time and place that suits them, we hope our members feel equipped to better manage their health,” he added.

“This pilot will hopefully allow us to better understand the health needs of our international members so that we’re able to deliver the right tools to our members to help them manage their health and in turn, help prevent the development of more serious health issues later on,” Mr Barr said.

Upon successful completion of the pilot, nib will explore the opportunity to open the program to more members.
