With the assistance of a Health Smart Grant, Cancer Council Queensland have launched an edgy and most importantly, educational, campaign to help Aussies better understand how our everyday lifestyle choices can impact our cancer risk.

In Australia, one third of all cancer cases can be prevented through healthy lifestyle choices. Small lifestyle changes to our sun safety, diet, exercise, smoking and alcohol habits, can add up to make a big difference to our overall health and wellbeing and reduce the risk of disease, like cancer.

Cancer Council Queensland’s campaign is addressing this, by encouraging more young Aussies to take the Cancer Risk Calculator - an easy to use interactive online tool which provides personalised information, helpful tips and resources about modifiable behaviours to reduce cancer risk.

The most recent Chief Health Officer Report shows that 12% of Australians between 18 – 29 years, smoke daily, 23% of young people are obese and 25% are risky drinkers. In addition, young people (18 - 34 years) are at least four times more likely to get sunburnt than the older generation (65 years and older).
Through greater education and awareness we hope more Australians will be equipped with the skills and knowledge they need to make positive lifestyle choices and, ultimately, lead healthier lives.
