We were proud to be a part of nib’s 70th anniversary celebrations hosting our People’s Choice vote and donating a share of $100,000 towards three of our valued charity partners.

To help us decide where the funding will go, we called upon our employees, members and shareholders to vote for the cause they’d like to get behind, with each charity  receiving a portion of funding, depending on where they placed in the voting.

  • 1st place: $50,000

  • 2nd place: $30,000

  • 3rd place: $20,000

Thanks to the more than 19,000 votes received, we’re excited to announce Ronald McDonald House Charities has taken the top spot!

When a child is diagnosed with a serious illness, it impacts the whole family. Ronald McDonald House Charities Australia keeps families of seriously ill children together and close to the care their child needs while undergoing treatment at hospital. They offer a range of programs that support families' physical, emotional, and practical needs. Our $50,000 donation will support their Keeping Families Together Program by upgrading the outdoor play and garden areas.

In second place, and receiving $20,000, is youth mental health charity, batyr! Recognising the stigma still associated with seeking mental health support among young people, batyr is challenging the mental health narrative by providing young people with easy access to online and face-to-face support programs in schools, universities and workplaces. Their funding will support more young people to access these programs.

Our Aboriginal health partner, Awabakal Ltd will also receive $20,000 in extra funding support to continue their important work of supporting the health and wellbeing of over 10,000 First Nations peoples across the Hunter. They do this by connecting families with local and culturally appropriate healthcare, social, advocacy and support services.

A special thank you to everyone who took part in our 70th Anniversary People’s Choice vote. We were grateful to be able to share the love with you across all three charities, to partner in support of our communities’ better health and wellbeing.
