Supporting people with Down syndrome to age well

We are pleased to support Down Syndrome Australia as they launch a new series of accessible resources for people with Down syndrome as they get older.

We are pleased to support Down Syndrome Australia as they launch a new series of accessible resources for people with Down syndrome as they get older.
The Ageing Well with Down Syndrome resources, opens in a new tab, funded by nib foundation, bring together practical information on key health topics in a format that is easy to understand and use. The resources help people recognise early signs of age‑related health conditions, seek support early and stay well as they age.
People with Down syndrome are living longer than ever before, and the health needs change as people move through different stages of life.
The new fact-sheets focus on single health topics that commonly affect people as they get older:
Keeping my body healthy
Dementia
Anxiety and depression
Grief and loss
Perimenopause and menopause
Each fact-sheet is written in simple language and includes practice tips. They highlight what to look out for, when to check in with a doctor and where to find support. The aim is simple: reduce barriers to care and help people feel confident speaking up about their health.
The resources were guided by an Ageing Advisory Group and shaped by the voices of people with Down syndrome, their families and health professionals. This approach ensures the content reflects real experiences and responds to identified needs.
Our partnership with Down Syndrome Australia has been shaped by a shared commitment to health equity. This project aligns strongly with nib foundation’s focus on helping more people live longer in better health. Tailored information plays an important role in improving health outcomes for people living with disability and strengthening preventative care.
The full suite of resources will be freely available on the Down Syndrome Australia’s National Resource Hub, opens in a new tab, along with a short video, opens in a new tab where people share what ageing well means to them.
We’re proud to partner with Down Syndrome Australia as they continue building practical tools that enable better health for people with Down syndrome across Australia.
