Each year, we encourage our employees to support a cause important to them by nominating a charity of their choice for the chance to receive $5,000 each from nib foundation. Thanks to the more than 600 votes from our employees, we’re excited to announce the recipients of our 2022 Good Cause Grants.

To date, our Good Cause Grants have provided $195,000 in funding to support 39 important causes that help improve health and wellbeing outcomes for the communities in which we live and work.

Congratulations to this year’s recipients:

Friends of Palliative Care

Friends of Palliative Care Maitland assist and support individuals, their families and carers in the Maitland, Dungog, Singleton, Cessnock and surrounding areas with life limiting illnesses. This includes supporting the costs of medi-alarms and other vital equipment and loaning out hospital beds so individuals have the opportunity to return home from the hospital if they choose to.

“Friends of Palliative Care Maitland help bring peace and restore dignity. I have a connection to a person that is receiving assistance now at the end of her life and the change in her that has been brought about by their care and assistance is wonderful.”
– Grahame, Customer Care Consultant

Share the Dignity

Share the Dignity works to make a real, on-the-ground difference in the lives of women and girls experiencing homelessness, fleeing domestic violence or doing it tough. They distribute sanitary items to those in need and work to end period poverty here in Australia. Share the Dignity also creates awareness and education around menstruating, engaging kids to help them understand the process and not feel embarrassed.

“Each year I donate a handbag filled with carefully selected essential items and period products. Dignity collects the bags and distribute to charities. The joy I receive back from reading stories from some of the girls that received a bag, is the one of the best Christmas gifts I receive each year.”
– Janelle, Premium Revenue Manager

Starlight Children’s Foundation

For over 30 years, Starlight Children's Foundation has used play, social connection, and creativity to support children and young people with serious illness inside and outside of hospital. The Starlight Foundation offers a range of programs, including Captain Starlight, wish granting and Livewire, to support the health and wellbeing of sick kids.

“My husband had a brain tumour and serious heart condition as a child and had a wish granted by the Starlight Foundation. He talks about Starlight so fondly; they really made a scary time in his life when he was a child so much brighter.”
– Monique, Clinical Advisor

“The Starlight room at Westmead Children's Hospital has bought so much joy to my little boy and made him laugh and smile when he has had procedures done in.”
– Chantelle, Provider Network Specialist

Lifeline Aotearoa

Lifeline Aotearoa has been helping New Zealanders in crisis for over 50 years, with a mission to reduce distress and save lives by providing safe, accessible, effective, professional and innovative services. They provide a free suicide crisis helpline to the community, as well as specialist counselling, corporate and volunteer training, and online support for workplaces. They also coordinate suicide prevention and postvention activities in the Wellington districts.

“I nominated Lifeline due to their need for funding post COVID. I want to help them at this stage as they are in need, and when someone is in need, I believe we should help them.”
– Abhishek, Health Support Consultant

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) works in 190 countries for the survival, protection, and development of every child, with a focus on the lives of children who are the most disadvantaged and excluded. For more than 70 years, UNICEF has worked to promote and protect children's rights on a global scale through advocacy, education and research.

“As a UNICEF Global Parent for almost 20 years, I would love it if more could be done to give all children a better life.”
– John, Lead Software Engineer

World Vision

World Vision's ‘Help Fill a Stable’ initiative is a life changing gift that helps transform the life of disadvantaged families. Through community donations, World Vision provides families in need with a stable of animals such as pigs, cows, goats, chickens and ducks, as a reliable source of income and good nutrition. Their aim is to help break the cycle of poverty by providing food security to help improve the livelihoods of families and their local community.

“My family have decided to "return and earn" this year with all of our money raised going to an under privileged village. We want to buy animals and farming products.”
– Michael, Knowledge Management Coordinator
