Building better health and wellbeing to last a lifetime

From 2017 to 2025, nib foundation’s Prevention Partnerships Program invested in organisations at the forefront of preventative health, helping Australians build health literacy, access practical support and reduce the risks that contribute most to chronic disease.

This report celebrates the partners, projects and practical tools that helped more than three million people take steps to protect their long-term health and wellbeing.

Prevention in action

Almost half of Australians live with at least one chronic health condition. Many risk factors that contribute to chronic disease are preventable, including smoking and vaping, alcohol misuse, poor diet, obesity and mental ill-health.

The report highlights practical examples of how prevention works when people get access to the right support, and modify their risk factors.

Each spotlight shows a different way prevention can work:

Hear from the community

“As a parent of two young kids...I learned practical, budget-friendly ideas that I could easily integrate into our weekly menu. The website resources have been great for quick meal and snack inspiration. I walked away feeling confident that healthy eating doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive.”

— No Money No Time user

“Finding Hello Sunday Morning was a pivotal moment. It provided me with a healthy option to replace my drinking habits and a community that held me accountable… the benefits were immense: mental clarity, a sense of purpose, reduced stress.”

— Daybreak user

“Very concise and in plain English, reassuring that intrusive thoughts are quite common and with help and support can be dealt with, a feel-good moment at the right time, showing that, there is a way... and it is not all doom and gloom, helps with that dreadful fear component.”

— Lifeline Support Toolkit user

“BodyKind Families gave me confidence to encourage dialogue around weight and body issues, which I was nervous about previously for fear of getting it wrong and causing issues.”
