nib has announced disability advocate, two sport Paralympian, Australian of the Year, ‘golden slam’ Quad Wheelchair tennis champion, entrepreneur, philanthropist and author Dylan Alcott, AO as its new brand ambassador and Chief Motivation Officer.

nib’s Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer, Mark Fitzgibbon, said Dylan will play an important role in motivating nib members, travellers, employees, and communities.

“Dylan Alcott is one of Australia’s greatest modern athletes,” Mr Fitzgibbon said. “His career spans 23 grand slam tennis championships across singles and doubles; he is a three-time paralympic gold medallist across two sports, wheelchair basketball and tennis.

“And since retiring from his tennis career, he has launched a philanthropic organisation to mentor people with disability and remove the barriers to young peoples’ participation in sports, training, education and employment; and co-founded Get Skilled Access and The Field, businesses that focus on supporting people with a disability in the workforce.

“He’s a tremendous role model for all Australians,” he said.

Mr Alcott will work with nib as a motivator, advocate, adviser and promoter for nib’s health and travel businesses, as well as its National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) business, nib Thrive.

“We’re especially eager to get Dylan involved in both advisory and ambassador work for our nib Thrive business,” Mr Fitzgibbon said. “We expanded into the disability sector to help Australians seek greater choice and control and to deliver good outcomes for all people in the NDIS. It’s a sector that is vitally important to Australia’s social contract.

“We have 70-years’ experience working with thousands of healthcare and allied healthcare providers every week. We are bringing that experience and those connections to our work in the NDIS and look forward to working with Dylan as that part of our business grows.”

Mr Alcott said: “The reason I get out of bed is to change perceptions and to support people with disabilities to live their lives and have choice over their lives. That’s why I’m so pumped to be a part of the nib family now, because it is supporting that mission as well – through products and services that support all people in this country to get out there and live healthier, better lives.

“This partnership is about much more than brand awareness. I’ve partnered with nib to help motivate Australians to put their health and wellbeing first; advise on nib’s own inclusive workplace practices; and to continue to advocate for the 4 million Australians living with a disability,” Mr Alcott said.

“We’ve got some exciting initiatives in the works that I can’t wait to share in the near future; but the good work has already started, with nib advertising over 60 jobs through The Field disability jobs platform already, and generously donating a proportion of funds within our commercial agreement to the Dylan Alcott Foundation,” he said.

To launch the partnership, Dylan joins nib’s long-time nib ambassador, former footballer Paul ‘The Chief’ Harragon, in a video titled ‘The tale of two Chiefs’. The two Chiefs meet for the first time and take a drive together in Dylan’s hometown, Melbourne, to discuss careers and motivation for joining health partner, nib.

“It was great to meet Dylan and welcome him to nib. It’s been over 30 years now since I first partnered with nib, back when I was still playing at the Knights, and nib’s growth over this time has been tremendous.

“I’m looking forward to working with Dylan and witnessing all the great work that’s to come from this partnership. He’s a great guy, with big ambitions,” Mr Harragon said.
