5 easy ways to give back this Christmas
It doesn’t take much to make a big impact
To celebrate its 10th anniversary, nib foundation hosted Pitch for a Healthy Cause – a special event giving Hunter-based charities the opportunity to pitch for a funding boost.
The three finalists – Share the Dignity, Waves of Wellness and the Australian Institute of Neuro-Rehabilitation – walked away with a share in $100,000 to help tackle key health issues in their communities.
The finalists pitched their cause to 100 guests who each received $900 of nib foundation funding to give to the charity of their choice.
With the remaining funds, it was your votes that made a difference! Over the month of September, more than 3,500 votes were submitted through The Check Up for the $10,000 ‘People’s Choice’ award.
The results were tallied, and the Australian Institute of Rehabilitation (AIN) received the highest portion of the funds, with $39,000 given to provide additional robotic therapy sessions to local residents living with physical disabilities.
Share the Dignity received a total of $33,400 and took out the ‘People’s Choice’ award, which will go towards installing further Dignity Vending Machines containing basic sanitary items in the Hunter region for women experiencing homelessness and domestic violence.
While Waves of Wellness took home $27,600 to support the design and pilot of a new trauma-specific surf program for young people in the Hunter struggling with mental health.
Pitch for a Healthy Cause caps off what has been a big decade of giving for the foundation, which has committed over $17 million in funding to more than 120 partners to help make a real and measurable difference to communities across Australia.
