Why nib is worth it for young families

Great value family cover

Kids. Best things ever.
So naturally as a parent you want the best possible value from your health cover.

With nib family covers, you can access many benefits:

  • No hospital excess for kids under 21
On selected nib family covers, you won’t have to pay an excess if one your kids have to go to hospital (once waiting periods have been served).
An excess is the minimum amount you have to pay towards a hospital stay, each admission. This can get pricey, so at nib, we’ve capped the hospital excess to a maximum amount per year. The higher the excess, the cheaper the health cover.
  • Cover for First Aid Courses on selected covers
As a parent with young children, being prepared for the unexpected and for those little accidents is very important. On selected nib family covers, you can claim on approved first aid courses through your Healthier Lifestyle benefit.
  • No extra cost as your family grows
With nib family health covers, you can cover all dependant children under 21 and yourselves for the same cost as a couples cover (applies to the same level of cover). So as your family grows the more value you can get from your cover.
Children aged 21-25 are allowed to remain on their parent’s health cover only if they qualify as a ‘student dependant’. This means they are in full-time study and aren’t married or in a de-facto relationship.
  • Up to 75% back on Extras up to your annual limits:
Depending on your level of cover, you can get 50%, 65% or 75% back on Extras every time you claim, up to your annual limits of course.

You can claim on things like:

    General Dental

Regular visits to the dentist are an important way to help keep your children’s teeth and gums healthy. The General Dental feature in nib health covers ensures your children are covered for regular check-ups, x-rays, fillings, basic extractions and preventative procedures.

    Orthodontia

Orthodontia benefits cover treatment to straighten and correct teeth and jaw alignment problems with devices such as braces and plates. The earlier these issues are diagnosed in children the better.

    Physiotherapy

The rapid growth of muscle and bone in young boys and girls combined with busy sporting schedules can often result in body imbalances and injury.

Physiotherapy can help with joint movement, keep muscles working for normal movement and prevent or reduce scarring.

    Podiatry

As your child learns to walk, you may notice some abnormalities about their feet or gait that cause you concern. Consulting a podiatrist may be useful to help them improve their condition and learn to walk properly.

    Speech therapy

Australian children who experience speech and language difficulties can benefit from the early interventions by professional Speech Pathologists. This could make a real difference to your child’s confidence, skills and learning.
